The common wisdom that I have been hearing is, "The first time is always a learning experience." Our first issue has been a learning experience in what reasonable timelines are.
For those of you wondering where issue 1 of Ishka Bibble is, the wait will be over soon. The original thinking was that a journal was pretty much like any other book project, which is true, if your other book projects have about 50 authors and come from around 200 submissions. Which is to say, it is nothing like a regular book project. The debut issue will come out this spring, estimated between mid-March and mid-April. Future issues will continue to be spring releases, as the original time line of two months from close of submissions to publication has proven to be fantasy, at least for a very small press. Final notifications will be going out in the coming weeks (all that currently remains in the review queue are submissions for The Book of Desire supplement). All submissions that are dated after August 31st will be considered for issue #2. If you made a submission for the journal prior to August 31st for any category other than The Book of Desire supplement, and still have not heard from us, then please contact me directly as soon as possible via the contact form, as it may have gone missing in the submissions system. All general journal submissions should have been reviewed and responded to by now. We are still taking submissions in all of our categories, including chapbook and full-length manuscripts, as well as submissions for issue #2 of the magazine. Once the magazine has seen the light of day, the review process will turn solely to the manuscript submissions until all manuscripts outstanding as of December 31st have been reviewed. After that, all submissions for the journal and for manuscripts will be reviewed in the order they were received. Thank you for your patience in this process. The deadline for consideration for issue #2 of Ishka Bibble is still August 31st, 2016, with publication now set for spring of 2017. In the meantime, please also watch out for new releases from Emily Isaacson and Christie Grimes, which will be coming out this spring. More information on those titles is forthcoming, as well as some long-needed updates to the website.
